One thing that we know for certain is the Bronco's 2010 schedule is set and the team is looking forward to a September 6th date against Virginia Tech. A win against the Hokies at FedEx field would have the Broncos in the driver's seat at the top of the polls with a shot at a National Championship.
The funny thing about that is they would be doing it as a member of the Western Athletic Conference. Not the Mountain West, not some new hybrid conference made up of Big XII leftovers. No, they would represent the WAC on the Big Stage in Glendale, Arizona, site of the 2 Fiesta Bowl wins the team also recorded as a member of the WAC.
In fact, the WAC has sent as many teams to BCS games as the Mountain West, with the same record, 2-1. The only difference is that the Mountain West's one loss came to a WAC team! Sure, I understand the increase in revenue and the relative gain in "legitimacy" the Mountain West would bring Boise State, but the WAC has been as good for the Broncos as the Broncos have been for the WAC.
So while an invitation to the Mountain West may still be imminent, and a sure thing that the Broncos would accept, if the Boise State Broncos remain in the WAC, it won't be such a terrible thing.
